Caratteristiche e finalità
La laurea L-34 in Scienze geologiche è stata concepita come la prima parte di un percorso unitario che prosegue nella LM-74 (Geologia e Geologia tecnica), e pertanto la missione principale di questo Corso di studio è quella di fornire capacità di apprendimento focalizzate su contenuti nelle aree di base e nelle aree fondamentali delle geoscienze.
Chi studia, grazie anche a numerose attività di laboratorio, conosce i processi chimici, fisici, biologici e geologici che hanno determinato e determinano l'evoluzione superficiale e profonda del pianeta Terra. Tali competenze consentono di confrontarsi con le problematiche interdisciplinari connesse ai grandi rischi naturali (idrogeologici, vulcanici e sismici) e di affrontare con metodo scientifico un vasto spettro di problemi: dal reperimento di materie prime e fonti di energia, fino alla gestione del territorio e delle sue risorse.
Il Corso prevede esercitazioni pratiche sul terreno e in laboratorio, tirocini formativi e soggiorni presso altre università italiane ed europee.

Ambiti occupazionali
Nonostante la finalità non professionalizzante del Corso di studio, chi consegue il diploma di laurea triennale in Scienze geologiche potrà trovare impiego, in qualità di dipendente a livello non dirigenziale o con mansioni puramente tecniche, presso enti pubblici, istituzioni, aziende, società, agenzie di ricerca e studi professionali che si occupano di conoscenza e gestione del territorio e delle sue risorse, di ricerche minerarie o di idrocarburi e della caratterizzazione di geomateriali. Superato l'Esame di Stato, potrà iscriversi all'albo B (Geologo junior) dell'Ordine nazionale dei Geologi.

Dalla triennale alla magistrale
Il Corso dà accesso al corso di laurea magistrale in Geologia e geologia tecnica, secondo le modalità che saranno indicate nello specifico avviso di ammissione.

Characteristics and objectives
The L-34 degree in Geological Sciences is envisaged as the first part of an aggregate educational project that follows in the LM-74 Master Degree (Geologia e Geologia Tecnica). As a consequence, the main mission of the Course is to provide learning skills focused on the knowledge of basic preparatory sciences and of the fundaments of Geosciences.
Taking advantage also of several practical training stages, the student will acquire skills and knowledge on the chemical, physical, biological, and geological processes that determined and are still determining the evolution of the shallow and deep Earth.
Through such studies, the student will learn how to cope with interdisciplinary problems related to natural risks (e.g., hydrogeological risk, volcanism, earthquakes) and to acquire a scientific approach in tangling with a large spectrum of geological problems, from mining and oil exploration, to the management of natural and anthropic landscapes and their resources. Field and laboratory hands-on training and stages in industry and enterprises, as well as in other Italian or European University, are foreseen.

Occupational opportunities
Despite the non-professionalizing character of the degree, the Bachelor in Geological Science may be employed as a technician in public companies, environmental agencies and research institutions, as well as in private geological companies working on land and resource management, mining and oil exploration, and on the characterization of geomaterials. Once passed the Geologist Certification Examination ("Esame di Stato"), the BSc in Geological Sciences can be admitted to the Professional Association of Geologists ("Albo Professionale dei Geologi") as Junior Geologist (Section B).

From Bachelor's degree to Master's degree
The Bachelor degree allows access to the Master in Geology and Technical Geology, following the rules that are defined in the specific admission procedure.
