Il Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Medicina e Chirurgia - Medicine and Surgery (SMS) è un corso di studio internazionale della Classe delle lauree magistrali in Medicina e chirurgia (LM-41). Ha una durata di sei anni e comporta l'acquisizione di 360 crediti formativi universitari (CFU) per il conseguimento del titolo. Sono previsti 27 esami, compreso l'esame di tesi, che prevedono l'acquisizione di 288 CFU. I restanti crediti saranno acquisiti attraverso altre attività formative: i tirocini formativi e di orientamento (tirocini professionalizzanti, 60 CFU) che comprendono ai sensi del D.M. MIUR 9 maggio 2018 n.58 15 CFU per il tirocinio pratico-valutativo ai fini dell'Esame di Stato, l'internato di laurea e la prova finale (12 CFU).
Indicativamente, gli esami previsti sono 5 al primo anno, 7 al secondo anno ,4 al terzo anno, 4 al quarto, 4 al quinto anno, 1 al sesto anno.

Il corso di studio è ad accesso programmato nazionale: la graduatoria viene formulata in base all'esito di un test nazionale, svolto contemporaneamente in tutte le sedi in cui è attivo un corso di Medicina e Chirurgia in lingua inglese.
La lingua ufficiale del corso è l'inglese.

Il corso è istituito in interateneo e al termine degli studi, il titolo è rilasciato congiuntamente dall'Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca e dall' Università degli Studi di Bergamo.

Al termine degli studi viene rilasciato il titolo di Laurea Magistrale in Medicina e Chirurgia.
Ai sensi dell'art. 102, comma 1, del decreto legge n. 18/2020, la prova finale dei corsi di laurea magistrale a ciclo unico afferente alla classe LM-41 in Medicina e Chirurgia ha valore di esame di Stato abilitante all'esercizio della professione di Medico Chirurgo previo superamento del tirocinio pratico-valutativo come disciplinato dal decreto del Ministro dell'istruzione, dell' Università e della ricerca 9 maggio 2018, n. 58. I laureati della classe devono raggiungere le competenze previste dallo specifico profilo professionale.

Il titolo consente l'accesso a Master di secondo livello, Dottorato di Ricerca o Scuole di specializzazione.

Il Corso di Studio intende fornire una solida preparazione culturale e metodologica nelle discipline biomediche-psicosociali, finalizzate allo sviluppo delle competenze professionali e dei valori della professionalità per la cura dell'essere umano nella sua globalità. I laureati acquisiranno una visione multidisciplinare e integrata dei problemi più comuni di salute e malattia, l'orientamento alla prevenzione della malattia e promozione della salute nella comunità e sul territorio, con enfasi sull'uso delle nuove tecnologie, completando le "classiche" competenze nelle scienze di base e medico chirurgiche con solidi apprendimenti sulle basi tecnologiche, informatiche, bioingegneristiche, economiche e di medicina di precisione.
La modalità di insegnamento è basata sull'uso di metodologie attive, che prevedono il lavoro a piccoli gruppi su casi e problemi clinici, metodi di comprovata efficacia formativa, e l'integrazione precoce tra didattica d'aula e attività clinica.

Le attività formative del primo e del secondo anno di corso sono svolte presso le aule e i laboratori dell'ASST-Papa Giovanni XXIII di Bergamo, del Dipartimento di Medicina e Chirurgia dell'Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca e del Dipartimento di Ingegneria Gestionale, dell'Informazione e della Produzione dell'Università degli Studi di Bergamo. Le attività formative di tipo clinico vengono svolte presso le strutture e i reparti ospedalieri dell'ASST Papa Giovanni XXIII (e altri ospedali eventualmente inseriti nella rete formativa). Il percorso formativo prevede la possibilità di periodi di studio presso la University of Surrey.

The international Master's Degree program in Medicine and Surgery (SMS) - School of Medicine and Surgery - of the University of Milano-Bicocca provides the qualification of physician-surgeon; The course lasts six years during which students earn 360 ECTS. There are 27 exams (acquisition of 288 ECTS) focalized on basic and clinical sciences (first academic year= 5 exams, second= 7, third= 4, fourth= 4 fifth= 4, and sixth= 1); 60 ECTS are for the professional internships, which include, in accordance with decree 9 June 2018 n.58 (GU n.126, 1 June 2018) regulating national board examination, 15 ECTS for the assessment internship; thesis internship and 12 ECTS for the final examination.

Access to the Medicine and Surgery course is nationally planned: the ranking is based on the outcome of a national test, carried out simultaneously in all the locations where an International course of Medicine and Surgery is active.
English is the official language of the course.
The course is Inter-University, the Master's Degree in Medicine and Surgery is issued jointly by the University of Milan-Bicocca and the University of Bergamo. The title entitles to apply for admission in second level Masters, PhD or Specialization Schools.
According to art. 102, paragraph 1, of the law decree n. 18/2020, the final test of the single-cycle master's degree courses relating to the LM-41 class in Medicine and Surgery, is a state exam enabling the exercise of the profession of Medical Surgeon after passing the practical-evaluation internship as governed by the Decree of the Minister of Education, University and Research 9 May 2018, n. 58.
Graduates of the class must achieve the skills provided by the specific professional profile

The International Medicine and Surgery Master's degree program provides a well grounded training in the biomedical-psychosocial disciplines. Graduates will acquire a multidisciplinary and integrated vision of the most common health and illness problems, professional skills and values; they will develop attitude to prevent disease and promote health in their community and territory. They will also develop a basic attitude for biomedical research and awareness of advantages and risks of new technologies. Graduates will receive multidisciplinary training regarding the core medical and surgical competencies while acquiring skills and abilities to navigate technology (e.g. motion capture systems and human modelling, telemedicine and advanced internet uses in healthcare) and for understanding socioeconomic changes and principles of precision medicine.
The course is highly innovative: it is based on active learning methods and evidence based educational approaches, as small group tutorials on clinical cases and problems, CBL (Case Based Learning) and PBL (Problem Based Learning); teaching of basic sciences is regularly integrated in the clinical context and students have an early exposure to practical training since the second year.
Teaching and labs in first and second years will be held in the lecture rooms and laboratories of Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Bergamo, School of Medicine and Surgery (Milano-Bicocca University) and Department of Management, Information and Production Engineering (Bergamo University). Clinical training sessions will be in the facilities and wards of Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital (and other hospitals that may be included in the Medicine and Surgery training network).

In the first two years labs and traineeship periods at the University of Surrey (Guilford, UK) could be possible for some students.
