Di cosa parla

  • Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) defined in two ways: extent of objective guidelines met or subjective satisfaction; acceptable air quality is free from contaminants and satisfies at least 80% of people
  • Sick Building Syndrome (SBS): symptoms disappear after leaving the building, often related to eye, nose, throat irritation, skin issues, headaches; Building-Related Illness (BRI) involves specific physical signs and clinical abnormalities due to indoor contaminants like carbon monoxide
  • Mass Psychogenic Illness (MPS): sudden onset of symptoms spread by sight or contact, linked to high temperature and humidity; common pollutants include radon, inorganic gases, microorganisms, particulate matter, lead
  • ASHARE standard 55 considers thermal comfort with IAQ; indoor air quality includes thermal, visual, acoustic, and human stress aspects; HVAC systems can be sources of pollutants due to dust accumulation in filters and fan coils
  • Main contaminants: dust, fibers, mites, airborne chemicals, combustion outcomes, environmental tobacco smoke, odors; key indicators like volatile organic compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde, carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O3), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), particulate matter (PM)
