La complessità che oggi caratterizza il settore delle costruzioni è tale da richiedere un numero crescente di laureati tecnici ed una organica diversificazione dei loro percorsi formativi sia nell'ambito delle Lauree in Architettura sia in quello delle Lauree in Ingegneria.

In questo contesto, l'Ingegneria Edile, un tempo settore dell'Ingegneria Civile, ha assunto forte specializzazione ed autonomia didattica.

Il laureato magistrale in Ingegneria dei Sistemi Edilizi è un tecnico colto e critico, con solida preparazione scientifica e tecnica, portatore di un atteggiamento professionale che lo mette in grado di:
- ingegnerizzare il progetto di architettura degli edifici, con particolare riguardo a quelli complessi, di grande dimensione e/o destinati in tutto o in parte ad attività speciali;
- sovraintendere all'integrazione progettuale di tutte le componenti tecnologiche e tecniche: edilizie, strutturali ed impiantistiche;
- organizzare e controllare il processo costruttivo e manutentivo;
- partecipare attivamente alla pianificazione e gestione dell'intero ciclo produttivo e di vita degli edifici.
